Ingenie policy details
Ingenie offers a selection of car insurance policies and types. Not all policies and types are available through our site, so the exact levels of cover and benefits may vary. Before buying car insurance, we recommend you check the cover and benefits included.
As a specialist insurer for young and inexperienced drivers, Ingenie policies include several features to cater for this specific market.
They break their cover down into two options:
- Black Box Insurance
- Learner driver insurance
Black box insurance: Ingenie Young Driver insurance works on the basis of a ‘black box’ being fitted in your car by an approved Ingenie engineer.
The black box is a smartphone-size device for collecting driving data. It is fitted out of sight in your car, usually behind your dashboard. It has no effect on how your car works.
This box allows Ingenie to collect data on your speed, acceleration, braking and cornering.
Every 10 days, Ingenie will provide you with advice on your driving to help you improve. You’ll also get an update on your Ingenie app regarding any discounts you are on track for. So the safer you drive, the lower your premiums could be.
Unlike some other black box insurers, Ingenie do not impose a curfew, so you can drive whenever you want. It's how you drive, not when you drive, that'll affect your premium.
With Ingenie insurance you're also covered for up to 14 days of driving within Europe. And you can earn a no-claims discount if you go a year without claiming too.
Learner driver insurance: Ingenie also offers car insurance to learner drivers. This covers you if you are a provisional licence holder driving someone else’s car and aged 17-29. This assumes your supervising driver is between 25 and 75 years old, and cover also includes your driving test examiner.
There is a low £250 excess if you have any bumps, and if you do make a claim, it won’t affect the car owner’s no-claims discount.
