Who is Admiral?

Admiral is a Cardiff-based, FTSE 100 financial services company offering cover to a broad range of customers, from those under 25 to much older and more experienced drivers.

Set up back in 1993, Admiral has been voted Best Car Insurance Provider for eight years running by The Personal Finance Awards. The thrust of Admiral’s market position is lower car insurance premiums for as many as possible, wherever they live.

The value-for-money emphasis criss-crosses comprehensive and third-party, fire & theft policies with benefits for full cover on some policies, including a 24-hour emergency helpline, a courtesy car and windscreen protection*.

They also offer multi-car insurance. Policies can include family members living at different locations, helping you and your family leverage your collective buying power to get a discount for everyone.

There’s a brand app to help you manage your cover via your smartphone. There’s also plenty of social media presence, including some useful guides to keeping safe on the road and protecting your premium.

Generally, there’s a lack of jargon around a wide product range. Admiral has consistently picked up awards for a positive workplace culture, embracing diversity issues like BAME, LGBT+ rights and well-being, not to mention ageism.

In 2020 the company was voted fourth-best workplace in the UK. Admiral also has a strong corporate social responsibility commitment and a solid record of charity giving.

Admiral car insurance policy details

Admiral single car fully comprehensive policies (excluding those on Essential tier) include a number of benefits. The three most important of these include:

  • European cover for up to 90 days’ protection in Europe*
  • Use of a courtesy car if your car is off the road and being repaired at an Admiral-approved garage
  • Windscreen repair or replacement, though your own excess will apply here*.

There’s £5,000 worth of personal injury cover for yourself and a partner, stereo cover for standard-fit sound systems* to your car plus up to £150 for sat-nav and personal belongings protection*.

Be aware that if your car is a write-off or has been stolen you may not be eligible for a courtesy car. Also, a courtesy car can often be a lot smaller or modest than your existing vehicle, often with just a basic level of equipment – so forewarned is forearmed.
