Who is Churchill?

Churchill Insurance is based in Bromley, Kent, and was established by Martin Long in 1989 as a direct-to-consumer car insurance company. It became widely associated with its nodding bulldog mascot through television advertising during the 1990s.

Along with car insurance, these days Churchill also offers home, travel, pet, life, breakdown, van, landlord and public liability insurance. Churchill’s home insurance products are available by phone and online.

Churchill was acquired by Royal Bank of Scotland in 2003 and has been part of the Direct Line Group since its formation in 2012. Direct Line Group is listed on the London Stock Exchange and currently has about 10,500 employees.

Among the other names under the Direct Line Group umbrella are insurance brands Direct Line and Darwin as well as roadside assistance and vehicle recovery provider Green Flag. Churchill’s home insurance products are underwritten by UK Insurance Limited.
