The Bromley-based insurer offers a number of additional benefits regardless of the policy you choose.

Who is Privilege?

Privilege has been around since 1994 providing insurance. Part of the Direct Line group, home insurance policies are underwritten by UK Insurance Limited. When it comes to what they offer, Privilege specialises in home and car insurance with tiered policies.

That means you can choose standard insurance or upgrade to a platinum policy with various bells and whistles. Last year alone, over 600,000 customers bought an insurance policy with Privilege.

The insurer is rated 4.2/5 on Trustpilot and 3.8/5 on Reviews.io.

What does Privilege buildings insurance cover?

Buildings insurance is there to cover the structural elements of your property. But what does that mean? This offers protection against the cost of repairs or rebuilding your home if your roof, walls, floors or permanent fixtures are damaged.

Typically, buildings insurance can cover your home if it's damaged by natural disasters such as storms, floods, fire, vehicle, theft and vandalism damage.

Privilege offers unlimited cover for the cost of rebuilding your home and outbuildings as standard. Other benefits include alternative accommodation cover, accidental damage cover and property owners liability.

With platinum, you get all the features included with a standard policy, and more. For example, bathroom or kitchen suite replacement, family legal protection, and home emergency cover. You also have a higher limit to find and access the source of water and oil leaks.

What does Privilege contents insurance cover?

Someone once described contents in your home as the stuff that falls out if you turn your home upside down. It's not quite as simple as that, but you get the picture – it's the moveable items in your home.

Contents insurance could protect your furniture, electronics, jewellery, appliances and more from damage caused by storms, fire, flooding, theft, etc.

If you buy contents insurance through Privilege, you'll have a few benefits included in your policy as standard. Replacement locks if your keys are stolen, new for old items, unlimited frozen food cover and personal liability is all included in a standard policy.

A Privilege platinum policy includes all the features of a standard policy and more. You'll also get cover for business equipment and high-value contents cover around special events, such as Christmas and weddings. Other features include cover for cash, accidental damage, family legal protection and home emergency cover.

Privilege house insurance optional extras

Like most insurers, Privilege offers a number of benefits to enhance your cover, but these could bump up the cost of your policy. It's worth noting that other than personal possessions cover, a Privilege platinum home insurance policy provides cover for all optional benefits. Here are the optional extras that Privilege offers:

Personal possessions insurance: Contents insurance typically covers your belongings at home. But if you take your contents away from home, you might not be covered. That's where personal possessions insurance can step in and ensure you're protected while you're out and about.

Accidental damage cover: Wallop! A cricket ball hurtles through your window. Accidental damage can come to your rescue. It covers your buildings, contents or both. This can protect you against unexpected, unintentional accidents caused by sudden physical damage.

Home emergency cover: It's not totally uncommon for your boiler to pack in or for your central heating to suddenly fail. But these issues could require an urgent fix, and it can be costly. Home emergency cover gives you access to a 24-hour service for emergency repairs. It can cover the costs of labour, emergency call-out and parts.

Legal expenses cover: There to cover you if you need to claim or discuss private matters with a legal expert. This could be personal injury claims, contractual, property, employment disputes and more.

You'll find all of these options when you choose a policy. Just make sure your policy doesn't already include a desired benefit. You might find you already have a degree of cover for what you need!
