What affects the price of motorbike insurance?

There are several factors that affect the price of your motorbike insurance, here are a just a few things:

Age & experience

Generally, the older you are and the longer you have held your licence, the less you’ll pay.

Annual milage

Simply put, the fewer miles you do, the lower the risk of an accident, meaning that insurance is generally cheaper.

Engine size

A more powerful bike usually means a higher insurance group and a higher price.

No-claims-bonus

Every year that you ride without making a claim earns you a discount. It's one of the best ways to keep insurance costs down.

Security

Where you keep your bike at night makes a massive difference. A locked garage or Thatcham-approved security devices (like disc locks) can help lower your quote.

Where you live

Busy cities often have higher theft rates and more traffic, which can bump up your premium compared to quiet, rural areas.

Your occupation

What you do for a living matters. Some jobs are seen as "riskier" than others, even if you don't use your bike for work.

Add-ons

Review any optional add-ons, as they can increase the total price. Ensure they are necessary so you only pay for features you will actually use.

What cover can I get with Bikesure?

When you buy motorbike insurance with Bikesure, you can choose from 3 levels of cover:

  • Third-party-only  is the minimum level of cover required by UK law and is designed to protect everyone except you. If you cause an accident, this policy pays for the repairs to other people's vehicles or property and covers medical compensation for injured third parties or passengers. However, it provides zero financial help for your own bike if it is damaged, stolen, or destroyed by fire.
  • Third-party, fire and theft covers the same as third-party only, but it also adds an extra safety net to cover you if your bike is stolen or damaged by fire.
  • Comprehensive is the highest level of protection available. On top of everything included in the other two tiers, it covers the cost of repairing or replacing your bike even if an accident was your fault or if you are involved in a "single-vehicle" incident like a slip. It also typically includes protection against vandalism and flood damage, making it the most robust choice for most riders.
