Who is Halifax?
Halifax started out in 1853 as a building society in West Yorkshire, set up to help people save, buy homes and manage their money.

Halifax buildings insurance protects the structure of your home, including fixtures, fittings, and permanent features like garages, conservatories, fences and driveways.
It can cover:

- Damage to your home from fire, smoke, storms, floods, explosions, theft, vandalism, lightning, earthquakes and escape of water.
- Replacement locks and keys.

What does Halifax contents insurance cover?
Contents insurance protects the belongings that make your house a home. If your things are stolen, damaged or destroyed, Halifax contents insurance can help cover the cost of repair or replacement.

- Up to £5000 for items stored in attached outbuildings.
- Cover for locks, keys and even freezer contents.
- Visitors' possessions while they're in your home.
- Money and cards kept in the house.
- Up to £25,000 towards alternative accommodation if your home becomes unliveable.

Accidental damage cover - included with Silver and Gold policies, or added on. Covers mishaps like spills or breakages.
Home emergency cover - helps with urgent repairs and includes a 24/7 helpline.

Outbuildings and outdoor contents cover - insures items in detached outbuildings or furniture left in the garden.
Away from home cover - covers personal belongings (like mobile phones or watches) when you take them out of the house. Also extends to students in your household living in accommodation.
Legal cover - included with Silver and Gold policies. Pays legal costs up to £50,000 and provides a 24/7 helpline.
