AA home insurance policy details
AA offers three types of home insurance - buildings insurance, home contents insurance, or buildings and contents insurance combined. Buildings insurance covers you against damage and loss to your building, including outbuildings, exterior and interior walls, roofs and flooring. Contents insurance protects you against loss, damage or theft of your belongings.
For buildings insurance and contents insurance combined, AA offers two different home cover packages - Home Insurance or Home Insurance Plus.
With Home Insurance Plus you get:
- Unlimited buildings cover
- £50,000 alternative accommodation cover if your home can't be lived in due to an insured event
- Accidental damage cover for buildings and contents, covering everyday mishaps like spilt red wine on a sofa
- Up to £7,500 cover for items stolen from outbuildings/garages
- In-and-away-from-home cover for valuables worth up to £5,000, including personal items like your phone or laptop
- Home Emergency Response for help with emergencies around the home
- Unlimited cover for replacement locks and keys if your keys are lost or stolen anywhere in the world
- New for old – AA will replace items without applying a depreciation to their value
With AA’s more basic Home Insurance package you get:
- Flexible levels of contents cover, starting from £40,000
- Buildings cover for homes worth up to £1 million
- £45,000 alternative accommodation cover if your home can't be lived in due to an insured event
- Accidental damage with your contents cover for non-portable gas and electrical items including cover for TV or washing machine
- Up to £3,000 cover for things stolen from outbuildings or garages
Both AA’s home insurance packages include a high level of buildings cover. The two policies also come with a good amount of alternative accommodation cover if your home can’t be lived in due to an insured event. So, if the worst should happen through an event like fire or flood you won’t have to worry about paying for a roof over your head.
With more of us working from home than ever, it’s useful that AA also includes cover for business equipment. You’ll get up to £10,000 of cover for business equipment with Home Insurance Plus and £5,000 of business equipment cover with AA’s Home Insurance package.
AA optional extras
With AA’s home insurance packages, you can choose to add optional extras on to your policy. This is great if you’re after specific cover. Optional extras include:
- Legal expenses cover
- Home emergency cover
- Accidental damage
Legal expenses cover is already included with AA’s Home Insurance Plus policy, but if you take out the standard package you can still choose to add it as an optional extra. It covers you against the cost of being sued or making a claim against someone, with up to £100,000 in legal expenses cover. You’ll also get access to a 24/7 legal helpline and a range of free online legal documents.
Home emergency cover is also included as standard if you take out AA’s Home Insurance Plus product. But you can also buy it as an optional extra with the more basic AA home insurance package. You’ll be covered for various household emergencies, with up to £500 of cover for call-out, labour, parts, and materials.
Accidental damage is another extra you can choose to add to your standard AA Home Insurance package. You can take out full accidental damage for buildings and contents. This is already included if you take out AA’s Home Insurance Plus package.
