How does Confused.com operate?
Confused.com is a price comparison site. We’re not an insurance broker, but a one-stop shop that makes it easy for you to find the right deal on car, home and life insurance; credit cards and other financial services; a range of household utilities; and much more.
We provide a comparison service which lists a range of providers’ products and services. We get a small fee from these providers if you decide to buy through our site.
- Comparing with us costs you nothing.
- The quotes we find for you on car or home insurance are not estimates. The price you see will be the price you pay – guaranteed.
- You won’t pay more for buying car or home insurance through Confused.com. The prices we quote are the same as if you went to the company direct.
When did Confused.com start?
Before Confused.com came along, drivers had to get their car insurance through high-street brokers, broker websites or directly through an insurer’s website. If you wanted to compare deals, it meant hours filling in forms just to get quotes.
In 2002, Confused.com launched the first online car insurance price comparison website, and in doing so spawned a market revolution. Confused.com flourished because it simplified the process of finding people great car insurance quotes.
Home insurance followed in 2005, and today Confused.com is the comparison site of choice for millions of online shoppers looking for all kinds of insurance - including car, home, travel, life, motorbike, van, pet and caravan to name just a few. Confused.com is also the place to find cheaper gas and electricity, and great deals on a whole range of financial services - from credit cards to bank accounts and personal loans.

How does Confused.com make money?
The most important point to note is that we don’t make money at your expense.
We provide a comparison service which lists a range of providers’ products and services, e.g. your potential insurer or electricity company. We get a small fee from these providers if you decide to buy through our site.
It’s in our best interests to find you the top deal on the service you’re looking for, in order that you don’t go elsewhere. For once, a system where everybody wins!
If you use Confused.com but then decide to buy over the phone instead of online, please remember to use the reference number we give you. That way you won’t have to repeat your details and we get credit for the sale, which helps us stay in business so you can get cheaper insurance next year.
