How Confused.com works
Learn more about how Confused.com works
Does it cost me anything to buy a policy, product or service through your site?
Whether you decide to buy or not, using Confused.com costs you nothing. You’ll never pay a penny more than you should for buying through our site.
After you decide to buy a policy, product or service through us, the company you choose pays us a flat fee or a commission. It never impacts how much you pay. It’s basically their cost to advertise with us.
What’s more, we have agreements in place with the brands and partners we work with that are designed to look out for you. When it comes to insurance, our agreements make sure that the price you see on Confused.com is at least as good as what you’d see by going to the insurance company.
Do insurance companies make their prices more expensive on your site?
No. Insurance companies set their prices based on the risk and likelihood of you making claim. You won’t get a cheaper price by going to them direct.
Insurance companies use comparison websites like ours to reach new customers and to avoid large marketing costs. They’ll pay us a flat fee or a commission if someone buys through us. By doing it this way, it helps keep insurance costs low and competitive.
Can I buy over the telephone?
Most of the insurance companies we work with prefer online transactions. If you do need to phone, we display a reference number after you get a quote. Have this to hand when you call, it means you shouldn’t have to repeat your details. What services does Confused.com compare?
Confused.com covers a wide range of insurance types and financial services, including:
- Car insurance
- Car finance
- Home insurance
- Van insurance

Which brands does Confused.com compare?
You can see the list of the brands we currently compare on our providers page. With insurance, we show you quotes from providers we have commercial agreements with. With such a wide range of trusted household names on our panel, you can be confident that we’ll help you find a great deal.
For other services we show a list of providers who we maintain commercial relationships with. However, we don’t have a commercial partnership with every provider in the market. So, we’ll also show you as much of the rest as we can.
When did Confused.com start?
Our journey started in 2002 when we became the first online car insurance comparison website, helping customers save both time and money. Before Confused.com, drivers had to get their car insurance through brokers or directly through an insurer’s website. If you wanted to compare deals, it meant hours filling in forms just to get a few quotes. But then along came Confused.com!
Home insurance followed in 2005. And today, we’re the site of choice for millions of online shoppers looking for all kinds of insurance types and financial services.
Who owns Confused.com
Confused.com is part of the ZPG comparison group of companies, otherwise known as RVU. Other brands in this group include money.co.uk and Uswitch. However, we’re a completely separate business, and pride ourselves on impartiality and independence. That means we don’t promote any group brand over its competitors.
