How does Confused.com make money?
Confused.com is free to use. You'll never pay a penny more than you should for buying insurance through our service.
If you decide to buy a policy through us, the insurance company pays us a flat fee for getting them your business. The insurer pays this after you've bought a policy, so it never has an impact on how much you pay for your insurance. It's basically their cost to advertise with us.
Whether you decide to buy or not, using Confused.com costs you nothing!
What's more, we have agreements in place with our insurers that are designed to look out for you. Our agreements make sure that the price you see on Confused.com is at least as good as what you'd see by going to the insurer.
Does the acquisition fee hike up the cost of insurance?
No. Insurers set their prices based on the risk of you making claim and you won’t get a cheaper price by going to them direct. However, like any business, insurers have to cover a range of running costs, such as marketing. We charge insurers a flat fee if you take out insurance through us. Insurers factor this fee into their running costs. And they use comparison websites like ours to reach new customers as they only pay when they successfully get a new customer. So they spend less money on marketing, which helps to keep the cost of insurance low and competitive.
Can I buy over the telephone?
By nature, we're an online comparison service. However, if you use Confused.com to compare quotes and then decide to buy over the phone instead, please remember to use the reference number we give you. That way you won't have to repeat your details and we get credit for the sale. This helps us stay in business so you can get cheaper insurance next year!

Which year did Confused.com start?
Before Confused.com, drivers had to get their car insurance through high-street brokers, broker websites or directly through an insurer's website. If you wanted to compare deals, it meant hours filling in forms just to get a few quotes. But then along came Confused.com!
Our journey started in 2002 when we became the first online car insurance comparison website, helping customers save both time and money. Home insurance followed in 2005. And today, we're the site of choice for millions of online shoppers looking for all kinds of insurance types and financial services.
Who owns Confused.com?
Confused.com is part of the Admiral Group, which owns a number of well-known insurance companies such as Admiral, Elephant.co.uk and Diamond. However, we're a completely separate business, and pride ourselves on impartiality and independence. That means we don't favour Admiral's services, and we don't promote any Admiral Group insurance brand over its competitors.
