Who is Sheila’s Wheels?
You’ve probably heard of Sheila’s Wheels, or you might remember the adverts from the 00s when the company was founded. They featured Australian actors and a lot of pink.
It’s named after the Australian slang term for women and was founded by Sir Peter Wood who is also responsible for the insurer Direct Line.
But while there is still a lot of pink on its branding, the company, launched in 2008, is a lot more than just the adverts and continues to sell a range of highly-rated insurance products.
It started as an insurer aimed directly at women, but had to change this model when in 2012 gender pricing was banned in insurance products.
It is part of the eSure insurance group, formed in 2000, and is now one of the biggest direct insurers in the UK, with headquarters in Surrey. All of its call centres are in the UK with offices in Glasgow and Manchester.
It sells building insurance and contents along with home and car policies. You can also buy a range of other products including life and travel insurance. It offers a 45% no-claims’ discount for customers and if you choose home insurance you’ll get an unlimited limit for buildings cover.
As standard, Sheilas' Wheels' combined buildings and contents policies also include free family legal protection and free home emergency cover for the first year.
