Who is Sheila’s Wheels?

You’ve probably heard of Sheila’s Wheels, or you might remember the adverts from the 00s when the company was founded. They featured Australian actors and a lot of pink.

It’s named after the Australian slang term for women and was founded by Sir Peter Wood who is also responsible for the insurer Direct Line.

But while there is still a lot of pink on its branding, the company, launched in 2008, is a lot more than just the adverts and continues to sell a range of highly-rated insurance products.

It started as an insurer aimed directly at women, but had to change this model when in 2012 gender pricing was banned in insurance products.

It is part of the eSure insurance group, formed in 2000, and is now one of the biggest direct insurers in the UK, with headquarters in Surrey. All of its call centres are in the UK with offices in Glasgow and Manchester.

It sells building insurance and contents along with home and car policies. You can also buy a range of other products including life and travel insurance. It offers a 45% no-claims’ discount for customers and if you choose home insurance you’ll get an unlimited limit for buildings cover.

As standard, Sheilas' Wheels' combined buildings and contents policies also include free family legal protection and free home emergency cover for the first year.

Sheila’s Wheels home insurance policy details

You can buy buildings insurance, which protects the structure of your home, or contents insurance, which covers everything you own, or a combination policy with both of these elements.

With Sheila's wheels buildings insurance, the following are automatically included:

  • Alternative accommodation if you need to move out of your home, of up to £75,000
  • An unlimited sum insured for repair or rebuilding of your home
  • Cover for locks and keys of up to £1,000
  • Up to £2million in property owners liability cover

The contents policy includes the following elements as standard:

  • Up to £2,000 cover for garden contents
  • Up to £750 for cash held around your home if it is stolen
  • Up to £5,000 for student cover when away from the main home
  • Up to an extra 15% of the contents sum insured for special events such as weddings
  • Up to £10,000 for home office equipment

There’s also a discount available if you choose to buy both contents and buildings insurance from Sheila’s Wheels. However, the price you pay for home insurance will depend upon lots of different things. These include the size, value, and location of your home and also your own circumstances including your job, age, and history of claims.

Sheila's Wheels offers a selection of home insurance policies and types. Not all policies and types are available through our site, so the exact levels of cover and benefits may vary. Before buying home insurance, we recommend you check the cover and benefits included.

Sheila’s Wheels optional extras

You can upgrade your home insurance policy to include extra cover, for a small fee. The optional add-ons from Sheila’s Wheel’s include:

  • Personal possessions: This covers your belongings for accidental loss, damage and theft when you take them out of your house around the UK, and for up to 60 consecutive days anywhere else in the world.
  • Accidental damage cover: As with most insurers, this isn’t automatically included so you’ll need to pay a fee to add it to your policy.
  • Pest cover: This covers call out and extermination costs for pests such as wasps, hornet nests, rats, mice, and grey squirrels. The overall limit is £150 including VAT.
