A business credit card can be a useful tool in alleviating the load of running a small company, an opportunity that is always welcome.

An account can help in a variety of ways, from managing expenses to bridging cash flow gaps if your revenues dip.

As well as cashback offers and spending rewards, a business credit card can also be handy if you need to pay an unexpected (or unwelcome) bill.

To see how it could help your limited company, here are six benefits of having a business credit card.

1. Managing cash flow

Business credit cards can be a good way of managing your company’s cash flow, particularly when revenue fluctuates.

With most providers, any payments with the card will have a free interest period of up to 45 or even 60 days.

This can give your company some breathing space as you won’t need to pay interest on repayments until a later date.

You will need to pay off your balance in full to avoid paying any further interest.

2. Rewards and perks

Many business credit cards will offer rewards for your spending. This is often in the form of cashback on purchases, with bonus rates often applying for certain business expenses, such as office supplies or internet providers.

Travel perks are also common among credit card providers, with airport lounge access and the chance to gain points for flights available.

When choosing your card, think about what would benefit your business most.

3. Multiple cardholders and spending controls

Many business credit card accounts will allow at least two employees to be linked to the account.

You can also add a personalised spending limit to the card, so colleagues can use their card to pay for business expenses without you needing to reimburse them.

This also makes it simple for you to track how much has been spent using the card and where.

4. Emergency spending

From last-minute repairs to unexpected invoices, surprise costs are almost inevitable when you run a small business.

A business credit card gives you fast access to funds, so you can deal with issues straight away without disrupting your cash flow.

5. Splits business and personal expenses

Keeping your finances organised is easier with a business credit card.

It separates company spending from personal purchases, simplifies tax and accounting, and also presents a more professional image to suppliers, investors and lenders.

6. Enhance credit rating

A business credit card can help you build a stronger credit score, making it easier to secure funding down the line.

Just be sure to repay on time and stay within your limit, as missteps can harm your rating. A solid credit profile can also boost your credibility with investors and lenders.
