What is family health insurance?
It's private medical insurance for you and your family, should you become sick or injured.
Who does it cover?
It could cover everyone in your family who you choose to name on the policy. Children are generally accepted as anyone under the age of 18, but in some circumstances, if your child is under 25 and still in full time education, they could also be accepted under the family policy as a child. Depending on the insurer, some will allow children to be added at no extra cost.
What it covers
One of the key benefits of having private medical insurance is not having to deal with the sometimes lengthy NHS queues. If you're diagnosed with a serious condition, getting treatment quickly could be very important. It could include treatments which wouldn't normally have been available to you on the NHS.
Some of the typical benefits could include:
- A choice of top consultants and specialists
- Private rooms with parental accommodation
- Treatment at times that suit you
You can also customise some policies to include extra cover for different conditions such as: heart and cancer cover, physiotherapy and dental cover. Be sure to check your policy as some of these may be covered as standard.
