Transport Minister Paul Clark has launched a new consultation into the number of hours workers by van, bus and other professional drivers.
The consultation may offer a boost to van insurance customers who have been invited to have their say on working hours and whether they could increase the risk of having an accident.
Driving and duty limits are set out in regulations, along with break and rest requirements to ensure both road safety and fair competition between operators.
The new consultation is part of a full review of the domestic driver rules and although the finding will not result in legislative changes the responses will be used to inform future policy decisions.
Paul Clark said thousands of workers across the UK are affected by the house rules for domestic drivers.
"This is a wide ranging consultation and we want to hear from as many drivers, operators and fleet managers as possible so that we can understand how the rules are working on the ground," he added.
