About Us

Who are Confused.com?

Confused.com was the first insurance price comparison website. Confused.com is not a broker, but a one-stop shop that makes it easy for you to find the right deals on car insurance, home insurance, utilities and much more. Confused.com is not about selling you the very cheapest deal, unless the very cheapest deal is right for you. Neither do we push the most profitable deal for us – we put your needs first.

Confused.com is a trading name of Inspop.com Limited, registered in England and Wales Reg. No. 03857130 at Friary House, Greyfriars Road, Cardiff, CF10 3AE. Inspop.com is sister company to EUI Limited and Admiral Group Plc and we are authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority (Registration number: 310635).

How does Confused.com make money?

We get paid by the service provider every time you buy through Confused.com. It costs you nothing. You won’t pay more for buying through Confused.com – the prices we quote are the same as if you went to the insurance company direct. If you use Confused.com but then decide to buy over the phone instead of online, please remember to use the reference number we provide you. That way you won’t have to repeat your details and we get credit for the sale, which helps us stay in business so you can get cheaper insurance next year.

How does it work?

Simple really – just complete our online form and we’ll instantly submit your details to our extensive panel of partners. We currently have both car and home insurance providers* on our panel, with coverage increasing all the time as we add partners. Once we’ve fired off your details, about 30 seconds later your quotes start coming back. You can then view and compare them on the results page and we’ll also email the quotes to you for good measure. Unlike many of our competitors, the displayed quotes are actual prices and not estimates – the price you see is the price you pay. You are then free to choose the deal that suits you best.

What are we doing with your details?

We take your details and go to all our insurance partner sites and complete their forms on your behalf. If they return a price then we bring that back for you, along with details of any special offers. Your quote is saved on our partner's site so you can retrieve it easily if you want to go ahead and accept. Our partners cover UK car and home insurance providers (with coverage continually increasing as we add partners). The beauty is you only have to enter your details once, wait 30 seconds or so and then you can compare true like-for-like quotes. You're then free to choose the deal that suits you best, or remain with your current provider in the unlikely event that we haven?t found you a better deal.

* In addition, many of these providers have their own insurance partners, and your details will also be entered with them to return even more quotes.

Confused.com History

In the bad old days, drivers had to obtain their car insurance through high-street brokers, broker websites or directly through an insurer’s website. If someone wanted to compare deals, it required an RSI-inducing amount of repetitive form filling just to retrieve quotes.

But it all changed in 2002 when Confused.com launched the first online car insurance price comparison site, and in doing so spawned a market revolution. Confused.com flourished because it simplified the process of finding people great car insurance quotes.

Home insurance followed in 2005, and today, Confused.com is the comparison site of choice for millions of online shoppers looking for all kinds of insurance, including car, home, travel, life, motorbike and van. Confused.com is also the place to find cheaper utilities and great deals on a whole range of financial services.

In 2009, insurance price comparison was launched in Spain under the name Rastreator.com – Tu comparador de seguros. Rastreator.com is already a leader in motor insurance price comparison in Spain and plans to expand further into other insurance products. In 2010, the price comparison was extended even further across Europe with the launch of LeLynx.fr – comparateur assurance auto in the French market and Chiarezza.it in Italy.

Independent and Impartial

Although part of the Admiral Group, Confused.com is a separate business that offers a completely impartial service, i.e. it doesn’t favour Admiral Group products over any other in the market. The quotes that users are presented with appear in price order (cheapest first) and are completely independent of any Admiral Group affiliation or indeed, any promotion with a third-party service provider.

Who are our insurance/financial services providers?

Confused's Social Statement

Confused.com understands that a business is not purely 'in it for the money'. Confused employees rely on us to make a social commitment as do our customers, suppliers and indeed, the local community - potentially they are all affected by our social policy.

It is our responsibility to make sure we have a consistent framework operating to defined principles. These principles are regularly reviewed and developed, and will continue to be so.

Employees

We are only as good as our people and firmly believe in nurturing happy staff. We provide a working environment that stimulates creativity, allows staff to chill out in fun themed areas and offer a selection of games that helps motivate staff and develop relationships outside their normal teams. We offer our staff a flexible approach to working hours, helping to keep a healthy work / life balance, as well as organising games, competitions and events.

It is important for employees to understand the Company's goals and objectives. We work to communicate this in many ways. Staff are encouraged to attend monthly C.E.O update presentations, where they are informed of news from around the company, as well as information on bonuses and shares. A company newsletter is published keeping staff up to date with all events, highlighting focus on various teams, projects and individuals.

It is also important to us that our employees have a forum to communicate their experiences. Each quarter our staff complete a Confused.com staff survey, looking at issues such as motivation, communication, management and training. Admiral as a group also operates a yearly staff survey which our staff participate in. In addition we have a successful Personal Development Programme (PDP), and encourage weekly team meetings, as well as regular 1:1's between staff and their line manager. Communication is complimented by regular company and departmental Away Days.

Confused.com is committed to an equal opportunities policy. The company aims to ensure that no employee is discriminated against, directly or indirectly, on the grounds of colour, race, ethnic and national origins, nationality (citizenship), sexual orientation, gender marital status, disability, religion or belief, being part time or on the ground of age.

Confused.com operates project 'Eureka', encouraging employees to submit ideas benefiting the company. If successul, these ideas, gain financial support and are supported through to completion. In the past we have realised ideas such as caravan insurance, the Favicon (an online game), a bespoke piece of marketing activity at the 2009 Isle of Man TT Races and the '2nd Aid Kit' - a collection of bike pumps, phone chargers, iPod chargers etc which are made avaliable for staff to use.

Customers

In 2009 we had over 30million visits to our site from customers, whom we regard as pivotal to the successful functioning of our business. We constantly strive to ensure that our customers are treated fairly.

Confused.com regularly send out communication e-mails, offering information ranging from renewal advice, to home insurance, to switching energy supplier. We aim to respond to incoming e-mails within 24 hour of receipt. We have a dedicated team of professionals handling incoming telephone queires.

We have designed our website to adhere to W3C Level 2 accessibility guidelines and strive to adhere to this with everything we implement, enabling customers with disabilities to use our site more easily.

All personal information is held in the strictest confidence and used only for the purposes of generating and retrieving quotes, marketing and internal management information. We use industry-standard technology to ensure that all personal and transactional information is encrypted before transmission. After sigining into Confused.com, the closed padlock icon demonstrates that you are in a secure area of our site. Our robust security policies safeguard a customer's privacy from unauthorised access/improper use and we will continue to implement ever-more secure technology as it becomes avaliable.

Charity

Confused.com has adopted a charitable policy, which supports the local communities in which its employees live and work. In 2009 we raised over £11k for our nominated charity, Ty Hafan. Our Charity in 2010 is, once again, Ty Hafan, and in conjunction with them, we aim to exceed the 2009 figure by participating in many events such as 3 Peaks Challenge, skydiving and sponsored bike rides.

Additionally, Confused supports the community by operating a 'community chest' fund, donating funds to local charities and support groups.

Our staff are encouraged to participate in 3rd case voluntary schemes. There are many opportunities for Confused.com staff to share their skills and expertise with other businesses in the area. To date, this has been realised with many positive results.

Environment

Confused.com does not own the property that is occupies and is, therefore, reliant upon the cooperation of the managing agents in order to make changes that could reduce the consumption of energy and water.

We provide the necessary facilities for staff to recycling paper, cans, plastic bottles and cups, use energy efficient light bulbs, and use water purifying machines instead of plastic bottles. In addition we encourage employees to car share and provide bike racks for those who wish to cycle to work, as well as offering loans and discounts to incentivise the use of public transport.

We operate a clean desk policy and encourage staff not to keep hard copies of documents, therefore using less paper, and printing in black and white whenever necessary. Empty ink cartridges are recycled via the SCOPE charity.
