Sky Broadband deals

How to compare Sky Broadband deals

Although it’s best known in the UK for its digital TV services, Sky also has a great reputation for customer service.

It offers a comprehensive range of internet offers plus some premium entertainment packages. But it’s also the ‘least complained about’ large broadband provider, according to recent Ofcom complaints reports.

Why choose Sky?

  • As it uses the Openreach network, Sky broadband deals are available everywhere except the hardest-to-reach parts of the UK.
  • It provides a reliable service, as evidenced by its great reputation for customer care.
  • It has a range of internet packages available, from superfast to full fibre gigabit broadband services. Sky also offers social tariffs for customers receiving government benefits.
  • You can easily bundle your broadband with TV, home phone and mobile services, getting one monthly bill to cover them all. Typically, the more services you sign up for, the bigger the discounts.
  • With Sky TV and broadband deals, you get Sky’s highly-rated entertainment packages. This gives you access to premium TV channels like Sky Atlantic, Sky Sports and Sky Cinema.
  • You no longer need a satellite to access its TV services thanks to Sky Stream and Sky Glass.
  • There are incentives and exclusive broadband deals for new customers, such as guaranteed speeds and 50% off selected mobile data plans.
  • Existing Sky customers get special upgrade offers and perks, including free cinema tickets.

Potential drawbacks of Sky

  • Cheaper packages are available from other broadband and TV providers.
  • Sky broadband deals only come as 24-month contracts - there isn’t much flexibility aside from this.
  • Adding extra channels to your TV package may increase your monthly costs. Some channels may not be available with certain Sky broadband deals and promotions.
  • Some Sky TV channels aren’t exclusive to Sky. They’re also available through other broadband providers, including NOW TV

Does Sky have good customer service?

With the fewest customer complaints of all the big broadband providers, Sky has a good reputation for customer service. In Ofcom’s January to March 2024 complaints report, it received just six complaints per 100,000 customers, compared to other providers which received around 20.

In the Uswitch 2024 broadband provider reviews, Sky scored 3.87/5, outperforming TalkTalk and Virgin Media, who scored 3.40 and 3.54, respectively. Only EE outranked it with 3.93/5.

Sky Hub broadband routers

Sky provides two broadband router options:

  • The Sky Broadband Hub is available to all broadband customers, regardless of their internet speeds and whether or not they have Sky TV. It replaces the Sky Q Hub and has better wireless coverage.
  • You can upgrade to the Sky Max Hub, Sky’s newer Wi-Fi 6 router. It uses cloud optimisation to provide a smoother connection and monitors the flow of traffic to each active device.

Sky Hub Max is included with Wi-Fi Max, a Wi-Fi package that Sky are calling their most powerful yet. Sky Broadband customers can add it for an extra £10 a month. It comes with a guarantee of up to 25Mbps. This means you can stream in Ultra HD, game or work in every room or get your money back. Advanced AI-powered security for every connected device is also included to detect and block threats.

What TV services does Sky offer?

Sky TV

The standard Sky TV service features 350 channels, including the Freeview staples BBC, ITV, and Channel 4. You also get Premium channels, which are not classed as Freeview.

This includes Sky Atlantic, Sky One, and Fox, as well as Sky Box Sets and 40 catch-up channels.

Sky TV add-ons

You can customise your Sky TV package with add-ons, including Sky Cinema, sports from Sky and BT and bolt-on subscriptions like Netflix and Disney+.

Typically, the more you add, the more it costs, but most add-ons are included on a 30-day rolling contract. You can change your mind with a month’s notice.

Sky Go

Access to Sky Go is included with Sky TV subscriptions. This streaming, live broadcast and catch-up service allows you to watch Sky TV on the go, on your mobile, laptop, tablet or computer. Just download the Sky Go app.

If you’ve got a Sky broadband deal with Sky Mobile included, your TV viewing won’t eat into your data either.

Sky Go doesn’t work outside the UK. If you’re travelling overseas, you can download shows from On Demand and Catch-up TV before you leave.

Upgrade your Sky broadband viewing experience

With multiscreen, HD and Ultra HD add-ons, you can create the best possible viewing experience for everyone.

You can also access TV services by satellite and the Sky Q set-top box or opt for Sky Stream, which requires no satellite dish.

Sky broadband FAQs

Can I get Sky broadband with no landline?

Sky’s broadband packages all include the option of a phone line, and some of its packages will still need a phone line to connect the internet to your home. But you can certainly get Sky broadband without needing to pay for a landline.

Sky’s Ultrafast, Ultrafast Plus and Gigafast packages are full fibre or fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband services. This kind of high-speed broadband is delivered straight into your home through fibre-optic cables. No traditional landline is required.

If you want a home phone, Sky has a router that allows your digital line to work with a landline phone. You can keep your own phone number or get a new one.

If you choose any of the other Sky broadband deals, a landline is essential, and you get Sky’s Pay As You Talk package as standard. You only pay for the calls you make, so if you don’t use your landline to make calls, there’s no extra charge.

Whatever package you’re on, you won’t pay line rental.

What is Sky’s customer service number?

If you’re a Sky customer, you can call customer services on 0333 759 1018. Your phone number will automatically be matched to your account.

For product or service advice, visit the Sky website. There are online help guides and a help page to guide you. You can also chat with Sky’s Virtual Assistant.

If you use X (formerly Twitter), you can also contact @SkyHelpTeam or @SkyHelpIreland, or use the My Sky app.

Does Sky offer cheap deals?

Sky isn’t necessarily the cheapest broadband provider, although it’s always worth looking out for special offers, particularly if you use other Sky services.

Sky also scores well for customer service and provides a reliable internet connection on the Openreach network.

If you’re interested in more than broadband, you can bundle your internet services with Sky TV and/or home phone and mobile services. With more choices, finding a Sky broadband deal that works for your household is easier. By bundling products, you could save money in the process.

To find the best Sky broadband deal, do your research and compare broadband deals online to get a feel for this highly competitive market.

If you’re receiving Universal Credit or similar, you may also be eligible for Sky’s social tariff which costs £20 a month. Standard broadband packages start from £26 a month.
