Since the beginning of time, man has searched far and wide for the fountain of youth—the mystical elixir said to keep you eternally young. And while such a thing may not exist, science is honing in on the keys to slowing the ageing process. Experts believe that only around 30% of ageing is genetic; the other 70% depends on the choices we make. If you plan to stay forever young, follow these 22 unusual tips to maintain vitality and vigor. 

Your Diet:

Cook with Turmeric: Curcumin, a substance in turmeric, revitalizes your skin by working closely with collagen to stabilize it; this reduces scarring and boosts overall skin quality. 

Drink a Lot of Coffee: A 12-year-long study of coffee drinkers revealed that men and women who drink six cups of coffee a day reduce their risk of dying by 10% and 15%, respectively.

Eat Asparagus: Among other healthy things, the green chute is extremely rich in folic acid, or vitamin B9, which reduces the risk of cancer and may prevent also strokes. 

Eat Less: Reduce your daily calorie intake by 25%-30%. One study showed that the hearts of monkeys who were fed less functioned as well as those who were 15 years younger. 

Eat Porridge: A study of 400,000 men and women revealed that those who ate fibre-rich foods reduce their chances of dying prematurely by a fifth. 

Eat Tomato Puree Every Day: Tomatoes, which contain lycopene, are great at protecting your skin from sunburning and sun-related ageing. A Newcastle study revealed that women who ate 5 tablespoons of tomato paste daily had 33% more sunburn protection.

Include Tofu and Sweet Potato in Your Diet: Residents of Okinawa, Japan, are some of the longest living in the world. Live as long as they do by adding beta carotene-rich sweet potatoes to your daily diet, as well as 340 grams of tofu. 

Take Pine Bark Supplement: Studies show that it can boost skin elasticity by 25% and skin hydration by 8%. The supplement contains pycnogenol, a key skin component that decreases as you age. 

Your Body:

Run 20 Miles a Week: A study of 52,000 individuals over the span of 32 years showed that running up to 20 miles a week reduces the risk of mortality. 
Do Squats and Lunges Every Day: Nearly 1/3 of elderly hip fracture patients die within a year because of the trauma associated from the injury. Perform squats and lunges to prevent this injury. 

Keep Walking: Studies clearly show that walking every day helps to eliminate mild to moderate depression, which is believed to cause wrinkling.

Party a Lot: Those who are outgoing and enjoy socializing are 50% less likely to suffer from dementia in their old age.

Use Twitter and Skype: A survey of centenarians in America showed that using Twitter and Skype can help keep brain cells young and healthy.

Go on Dates: Loneliness ages you. A recent study showed that those who expressed that they had high levels of loneliness physically declined more rapidly than those who scored below the baseline. 

Have Lots of Passionate Sex: Men who had an orgasm at least twice a week over a 10-year period were half as likely to die than those who had less than two orgasms a week over the same period.

Be a Shop-a-holic: Taiwanese research suggested that older people live longer if they go shopping more often. In the study, women who shopped daily were 23% less at risk of dying than those who shopped the least; men were 28% less at risk. 

Be a Winner: Both Olympic medalists and Academy Award winners live an average of three and four years longer, respectively, than their non-winning competition. 

Wax Poetic: Those who describe themselves as creative have a reduced mortality rate. It is believed that creativity enlarges the neural networks in the brain. 

Cut the Carpet: Dancing three times a week provides as much exercise as being on a treadmill or exercise bike for the same amount of time. 

Exercise the Mind: The British Longevity Society promotes exercising your mind in fun ways, such as doing word puzzles, reading the newspaper while holding it upside down, etc.
