The Driving Standards Agency has revealed one unfortunate learner driver has failed his theory test 92 times.
The determined 28-year-old man from Leicester has forked out £2,852 on the test fees and will not be able to take his practical test until he passes this hurdle.
A Freedom of Information request also showed that another man from Leicester, aged 33, took his practical 22 times before he passed, which would have cost around £1,650.
Driving instructor Phil Oliver, from the unlucky city, said the revelations left him shocked.
He said: "It's an incredible number of times to fail a test. I've never heard of anything like it.
"Research has shown time after time that the most reliable way to pass is to have regular weekly or twice-weekly lessons, until you're a confident driver and no longer need help and guidance from the instructor.
"People run into trouble when they try to pack intensive lessons into a short period of time, or are unprepared for the test."
