10 fictional cars you wish you had growing up
If only your family hatchback had been as cool as these classic motors from TV and film.
1. Flying Ford Anglia (Harry Potter)
Hop in your enchanted wizard-mobile and get to your destination in no time. Just make sure you don't bump into any Whomping Willows – they’ve a worse temper than Voldemort with a parking fine.
2. Optimus Prime (Transformers)
As well as kicking the axles of evil Decepticons, Optimus Prime could turn into a massive truck whenever he wanted. Righteous indeed.
3. Batmobile (Batman franchise)
From classic convertibles to armoured tank-cars, Batman’s signature ride has taken many forms over the years. We’d settle for any of them, just for the joy of shouting “TO THE BATMOBILE!” in a car park and actually meaning it.
4. Mean Machine (Wacky Races)
Dick Dastardly and his dog Muttley were the bad boys of Wacky Races, reaping havoc in their rocket-powered Mean Machine. If the duo spent less time setting up traps and more time driving, they might have actually won a race.
5. Ecto-1 (Ghostbusters)
The Ghostbusters’ car of choice is an appropriately Frankenstein’d creation - part hearse, part ambulance and part 1959 Cadillac.
It’s no oil painting, but with a siren that sounds like a haunted cat any ghost knows that a bustin’ is coming.
6. The Magic School Bus
Most buses are boring, but not Ms. Frizzle’s. Her magic school bus would take you on the wildest field trips, from undersea adventures to expeditions inside the body. What parent signs the consent form for trips like this?
7. DeLorean time machine (Back to the Future)
If you’re gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?” Crank that baby up to 88 mph and prepare yourself for a literal blast from the past.
These other cars may impress you with their super speed and advanced gadgets, but Brum will be your mate. He’s totally down for cruising around Big Town while teaching you loads of important life lessons. He’s also one of the world’s first self-driving cars. Cheers, Brum.
9. Mario Kart
Picture the scene. Dual carriageways littered with banana skins. Explosive turtle shells bouncing off every street corner. Cars flying in all directions whenever some cocky motorist happened upon an invincibility star. Real-life Mario Kart would be total chaos, but loads of fun.
10. Modified 1964 Aston Martin DB5 (James Bond)
Bond’s classic DB5 featured pop-out machine guns and tire-slashing hubcaps. Also, let’s not forget that infamous ejector seat – ideal when your annoying friend won’t stop switching radio stations.
