Fancy whisking away your loved one for a last-minute break? Here are 10 great cities to visit this Valentine's Day.

If you want to plan a romantic escape with your other half but you're not sure where to go or what to do, then look no further.

Thanks to the folks at Skyscanner, the travel search site, we can reveal 10 of the most popular places* for a Valentine's break.

1. Dublin

The good news is that you don't have to go far from home to enjoy a romantic sojourn.

Head into one of Dublin's hundreds of pubs, cosy up with your partner and stare into each other's eyes over a pint of Guinness.

2. Amsterdam

It takes two to tandem, so grab a bike and hit the cycle-friendly streets of the Netherlands' capital city.

3. Rome

"When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie. That's amore."

The Italian capital, arguably one of the most romantic cities in the world, is the third most popular choice for a Valentine's city break.

4. Paris

The famous Pont des Arts "love locks" may be no more, but a stroll by the Seine is a fine way to spend a day in the city of love.

5. London

For those looking to stay at home, a mooch around Notting Hill, à la Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, could be the perfect way to spend Valentine's Day this year.

6. Edinburgh

Couples who make it to the top of Calton Hill will be rewarded with fine views over this picturesque city.

7. Barcelona

The capital of Spain’s Catalonia region has the lot: awesome architecture, delightful parks, a smart beachfront and a fantastic dining scene. What are you waiting for?

8. Belfast

In Belfast you can pay a visit to the world's largest Titanic visitor experience in the day, and snuggle up with your other half in the evening to relive the romance of the Hollywood version

9. Berlin

Germany's fascinating capital city has long been a favourite with history buffs, clubbers, artists and beer drinkers.

At less than two hours flight time from the UK it's also the perfect destination for a long weekend.

10. Copenhagen

The relatively compact city of Copenhagen is perhaps one of the most vibrant and stylish cities in Scandanavia.

Love birds can take in the sea air with a stroll along the Langelinie Promenade to see the famous Little Mermaid statue.

*The destinations are based on the number of flight exits from the UK for Valentine's 2016 - departing 12th/13th February and returning 14th/15th.
