Holidaymakers have been advised to shop around to find the best deals on foreign currency this summer.

Switching your cash for euros, dollars or any other currency remains an exciting part of the pre-holiday to-do list, but experts reckon the process is even more rewarding if you know you are getting a good deal and receive as many notes for your pounds as possible.

They therefore advise against leaving foreign exchange to the last minute as the rates offered in airports can often by uncompetitive - but by that stage you have little other choice.

James Yerkess, head of travel money at Marks & Spencer, told the Daily Mail newspaper: "Collecting a wallet full of notes gives you the first taste of your summer holiday so prioritise it early.”

In addition, researching exchange rates can even allow travellers to select their destination based on value for money.

Turkey is among the holiday hotspots proving to be a hit with bargain-hunters this year as the local lira sees travellers' cash go further.
