More people are organising holidays which have more than just one destination, a travel company has reported.

Hayes & Jarvis, which sells long-haul holidays, said it is taking more bookings from people wanting a single trip with several stop-offs, adding that last year saw a sharp rise in the number of travellers doing so.

It said destinations in South and Central America are becoming more common but that the US is still the most popular with its customers, with San Francisco particularly attractive for people hanging out there for one or two nights.

Other common choices are Dubai in the Middle East and Malaysia in the Far East, where people are arranging to visit not just the capital Kuala Lumpur but also surrounding regions such as Borneo, Penang and Langkawi in the one trip.

Meanwhile, Hayes & Jarvis said it expects Mexico to become especially popular this year with people hitting beaches in Cancun or the Riviera Maya in conjunction with visits to US cities such as New York or Las Vegas.

Vietnam should also see a higher-than-usual number of visitors this year, the company added.

Spokesman Niel Alobaidi said: "Off-the-peg packages are still very popular to beach resorts in places like Mauritius, the Maldives and Thailand.

"But growing numbers of Britons travelling to long-haul destinations are now demanding more varied experiences in return for parting with their holiday pounds."
