Most women 'diet before holidays'

Just over two thirds of women go on a diet before they take a holiday, latest research has shown.

Around 67% of females try to shed a few pounds before embarking on a break, with the average amount they try to lose being just over a stone, according to a survey by travel agent sunshine.co.uk.

The majority of those polled said they did something to try to change their appearance before going on holiday, with just 9% saying they do not do anything.

The poll questioned 1614 women aged over 21 who had been on holiday in the last two years. It found that 48% use fake tan or a sunbed before leaving for a holiday, 39% had their hair cut or dyed, 24% have a wax and 22% go for a manicure.

Those who went in for pre-holiday preparations of this kind spent an average of £162 on treatments, the poll found.

Sunshine.co.uk co-founder Chris Brown said: "I was quite surprised that around two-thirds diet before going away. After all, holidays are all about indulgence and you normally put a bit of weight on during your break anyway. With this in mind, it could be argued that the dieting is probably best left until after the holiday."
