A combination of eating too much, bad weather and family bickering over the festive season could lead to a holiday booking bonanza, according to a new report.
The Post Office Travel Money research found that foreign exchange sales shot up after Christmas 2010, with the firm forecasting that aspirational destinations such as Australia and New Zealand will do well in the post-festive period.
Also looking to capitalise will be destinations in the eurozone, followed by the USA, Australia, Egypt, New Zealand and Switzerland. The pre-Christmas market is also expected to see surges in interest towards Canada, Thailand, South Africa and Dubai.
Post Office Travel Money head Sarah Munro said: "There are great deals to US cities like New York and Boston after Christmas and early in the new year, not to mention a glut of new hotel beds in Las Vegas that are keeping costs down.
"Thailand has bounced back into favour after suffering an 'annus horribilis' in 2010 and the country is offering enticing discount deals for late bookers"
