The number of passengers checking in at BAA's six UK airports increased last month, it has been revealed.
This September was Heathrow's busiest ever, with a rise of 1.4 per cent recorded in comparison with the same time last year.
Overall, the six BAA airports saw 10.08 million passengers walk through their doors last month, which is a 1 per cent increase from September last year.
This rise is despite a 4 per cent fall in the number of passengers going through Essex's Stansted Airport.
Aberdeen's passenger numbers increased by 11.3 per cent, while Glasgow's saw a 3.2 per cent rise and Edinburgh had an increase of 3 per cent - making this September its busiest ever.
Last month, Southampton saw a passenger increase of 0.7 per cent, in comparison to September 2010.
Colin Matthews, chief executive of BAA, confirmed that passenger numbers increased in September, and said there was stronger growth across BAA than in July and August.
"Slightly softer Heathrow traffic in the latter part of September, vigilance in the near term from individual carriers and problems facing the European economy make us cautious about predicting traffic growth trends in the coming months," he said.
"However, Heathrow is expected to demonstrate its previous resilience if a more challenging economic environment emerges."
