Airports are the most popular destinations submitted by people using the AA's online route finder service.
Gatwick Airport's north terminal is requested more often than any other destination, followed in second place by Heathrow Terminal 5.
Bristol, Manchester, Southampton and Leeds/Bradford airports were the next most requested destinations in the list, while in terms of leisure attractions Alton Towers was the most requested followed by Surrey's Thorpe Park and the O2 Arena in south London.
A request for a way to reach Gatwick marked the 1.5 billionth route request on the service that was launched 100 years ago, the AA said.
Back in the early 20th century it was less about the information superhighway and more about highway patrols, when patrolmen provided route information to motorists.
The AA started providing its members with routes by mail from 1912 as drivers struggled with a lack of signposting on the nation's roads.
Up until the early 1920s routes comprised a series of handwritten cards, with printed directions being introduced after that with more than 500,000 compiled each year.
