Driving in Europe

Driving abroad sidebar

Driving in Europe can add freedom and flexibility to your holiday, and give you access to hotspots hidden from the traditional tourist routes.

Here are some top tips worth remembering to keep you legal, safe and sane when driving on the continent:

  • Many European countries have stricter drink-driving laws than the UK, and issue on-the-spot fines for motoring offences.
  • Make sure you display a GB sticker at all times – even if you have newer Euro licence plates, as some countries still require them.
  • Make sure your car insurance policy and driving licence allow you to travel abroad. Check out our guide for more information.

Know where you’re going? Take a look at our handy guides for driving in each country, which include local driving laws and top tips on sights not to miss.
