Strike Action Hits Eurostar Service

By Paul Donovan

Industrial action in Belgium has hit Eurostar services between the UK and Brussels.

Just one train will run between England and the Belgian capital due to the 24-hour strike which started at 10pm Belgium time on Sunday, highlighting the importance of getting adequate travel insurance.

The scheduled 7.34pm from London on Sunday was the last train to run on the service, and it was brought forward to 5.27pm to avoid the start of the strike.

High-speed onward rail connections in France, Holland and Germany are also likely to be cancelled on Monday.

Customers had been advised to postpone their journeys. A spokesman for Eurostar said a revised Eurostar timetable was in operation, with trains running between Lille Europe station and the UK only.

A limited coach service was being run between Lille and Brussels, though he warned that demand was likely to be high.

The only train running between the cities today will be the 7.34pm from London. Anyone urgently needing to travel to or from Brussels was asked to contact Eurostar.

Customers are able to exchange their Eurostar tickets free of charge within 60 days for a journey in the next 120 days. For more information, visit www.eurostar.com or contact 08432 186 186.
