Passengers Face Delays After Snow

Passengers are facing delays, cancellations and possible travel insurance claims at Birmingham Airport following heavy snow.

The weather closed the runway at the airport on Thursday but it has now been reopened with aircraft being brought back into position for outbound flights.

The disruption came after snow fell in parts of the UK, especially Wales and central England with some areas seeing several inches settle.

Forecasters said the flurries would largely clear away today, with scattered showers possible over some eastern parts of the country.

Gareth Harvey, from MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said: "The snow will gradually move away, but there might be some showers left over through the morning."

Many drivers also face icy conditions on the roads after temperatures plunged to around freezing overnight.

Birmingham was 0C (32F), Glasgow -1C (30F) and Cardiff 1C (34F) in the early hours.

The Met Office warned of widespread icy roads in many parts of the country, including south west England, north west England, Wales and the west Midlands.
