Couple Holidays 'Less Popular'

By Steven Birch

Fewer couples are going on holidays with just their partners, a survey has shown.

A poll by online holiday retailer sunchine.co.uk revealed that only 16 per cent of those questioned had booked a break away this year with "just my partner".

Results showed that many couples are happy to go away together as long as friends and family come too, with 32 per cent going away with their partner and with family while 26 per cent were travelling with their partner and friends.

With the cost of holidays and travel insurance increasing, taking trips away in groups could prove more affordable.

Out of the 1,726 respondents, 14 per cent said they would be taking trips with just friends and 6 per cent revealed they were going away with family but not with their partner.

Those questioned for the poll were in relationships and had already booked a holiday this year.

The survey was conducted after sunshine.co.uk found there had been a 12 per cent rise in family holiday bookings over the past year as well as a 26 per cent increase in group holiday bookings but couples' holidays were down 7 per cent.

Chris Brown, co-founder of the sunshine.co.uk, said: "Many people in relationships think that a holiday with just the two of them is their idea of paradise but you'd be surprised at the number of couples who actively choose not to go away with each other."
