Atlantic Electric and Gas
Atlantic Electric and Gas entered the UK energy supply market in October 2000, initially offering just electricity and then later gas and dual fuel products.
Now part of Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), Atlantic Electric and Gas contributes towards supplying more than 8.5 million customers with their gas and electricity across the UK.
Scottish and Southern Energy has been serving the country's domestic and business population for decades, and the company claims its success is down to a commitment to fair pricing, ensuring bills are clear and accurate, and a choice of free customer rewards.
Scottish and Southern Energy's green energy initiatives in the UK include:
- Building the UK's first deep water wind turbine in the Moray Firth
- Currently building the UK's first hydroelectric power station in half a century
- Hitting the 100MW electricity threshold from its wind farm in Ayrshire - the first in the UK to do so
The company's other activities include gas storage, energy trading, electrical, environmental and utility contracting.
Furthermore, by 2008 Scottish and Southern Energy will have invested over £850 million in renewable generation, refurbishment and construction projects.
A FTSE 100 company, the Scottish and Southern Group manages the largest distribution network in the UK and was also voted the UK's best overall energy supplier in an independent 2006 poll.
In a 2007 survey by JD Power and Associates, Scottish and Southern Energy was ranked 'No. 1 UK Domestic Electricity and Gas Supplier in Customer Satisfaction' - the first time any UK supplier had picked up the No.1 position for both gas and electricity.
