Scottish Hydro Electric
Based in Perth, Scottish Hydro Electric became part of Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) in 1998.
As part of Scottish and Southern Energy, Scottish Hydro Electric contributes towards supplying more than 8.5 million customers with their gas and electricity across the UK.
The company's other activities include gas storage, energy trading, electrical, environmental and utility contracting.
Scottish Hydro Electric is also focused on looking at ways to make our weather generate power for the UK, and parent company Scottish and Southern Energy's UK green energy initiatives include:
- Building the UK's first deep water wind turbine in the Moray Firth
- Currently building the UK's first hydroelectric power station in half a century
- Hitting the 100MW electricity threshold from its wind farm in Ayrshire - the first in the UK to do so
Furthermore, by 2008, Scottish and Southern Energy will have invested over £850 million in renewable generation, refurbishment and construction projects.
