npower
npower employs around 8,500 staff and is one of the UK's largest energy suppliers. The company supplies gas, electricity and related services to nearly seven million customers and also generates its own electricity.
npower operates and manages flexible, low-cost coal, oil and gas-fired power stations, generates renewable energy through hydro and wind power, and develops innovative energy-related technologies.
History
Launched in 2000, npower was the company name given to the collection of former electricity and gas supply businesses: MEB, Calortex, MEB Powerline, National Power Energy Direct and Independent Energy, Yorkshire Electricity and Northern Electric and Gas.
Community
npower says that it is committed to carrying out its business with a sense of responsibility and is an active member of the 'Percent Club', whereby it invests more than 1% of its pre-tax profits back into the community.
