Luxury and Executive Cars Have the Highest Accident Rate | Cheap Car Insurance and Home Insurance from Confused.com

A study conducted by www.confused.com – the UK’s leading online insurance search engine - has revealed that Alfa Romeo drivers, along with owners of luxury and executive cars, have the highest rate of road accidents in Britain.

According to the research, the Alfa Romeo 147 has the highest percentage of claims in the UK, with almost 24% of the model’s owners making claims for road accidents. The BMW 330 has the second highest accident rate with 23% of owners being involved in crashes, closely followed by the Mazda MX-5, Seat Leon, Alfa Romeo 156, Audi A6, Mercedes SLK, Audi A4 Porsche Boxter, and the Audi A3 with 22% of owners involved in driving incidents.

By contrast, small cars have the lowest accident rates lead by the Vauxhall Nova where just 8% of owners have made claims for accidents. This is followed by the Fiat Cinquento (9%), Rover Metro (9%), Peugeot 205 (11%), Peugeot 106 (12%), Rover Mini (13%), Vauxhall Corsa (13%), the Nissan Micra, Citroen Saxo, and the Ford Fiesta where just 14% of owners have made claims for road accidents.

Debra Williams, Managing Director of Confused.com said: “It’s hard to pinpoint why this trend has occurred. In comparison to small cars however, it’s fair to say that luxury and executive cars have among the highest accident rates because they are often used for long distance travel, with busy, stressed and tired executives behind the wheel. Whatever the car, people should remember to take regular breaks and maintain a safe distance from the car in front.”
