Think that living a clean and responsible lifestyle whilst driving a sensible small car will guarantee you low car insurance premiums? Think again! Research undertaken by Confused.com shows that clean-nosed Daniel Radcliffe would have to pay a premium for his Punto nearly four times the size of that paid by rapscallion Pete Doherty for his X-Type Jag.
Chicken!
The Harry Potter actor would - on average - pay 367% of what the Babyshambles front-man is likely to pay on his car insurance, despite having a small economical car and no convictions to speak of. However, being a mere spring chicken at 18 and living in Fulham does him no favours, insurance-wise.
Erratic!
Despite the ex-Libertines scamp's previous convictions, 29-year-old Pete Doherty is likely to fare better in premium terms than Radcliffe on account of being ten years older, and living in green, rural Wiltshire. This is in spite of a selection of motor related and unrelated convictions, including Class A drug possession, car theft, driving erratically, driving without an MOT, and failing to comply with driving license conditions. It would seem then that one can raise hell, whilst still maintaining reasonably-priced motor premiums*.
Based on their circumstances, Confused.com found that their annual car insurance quotes differed by up to £3,451.69 (508%) in some instances.
Swanky!
According to managing director of Confused.com Debra Williams:
"It is frustrating that Daniel Radcliffe, who owns a modest car and lives a 'clean' lifestyle, is expected to pay a high price for his car insurance, just because he is under the age of 25 and living in London. Despite his rock 'n' roll lifestyle, string of convictions, and swanky Jaguar X-Type, Pete Doherty's insurance is, on average, £2,680 per year cheaper than his youthful celebrity counterpart, predominantly because he is nearly a decade older.
"Daniel needs to avoid falling foul of typical teenage misdemeanours, such as speeding and driving without due care and attention. Keeping his license clean and making sure he builds up his no claims bonus will definitely enable Daniel to reap the benefits in the next few years."
