Energy bills are set to rise so act now to keep payments at 2007 levels
Domestic customers are likely to be hit with significant increases to their 2008 energy bills after several utilities companies upped charges for their most popular tariffs.
The changes mean that new customers could pay around £100 more per year, based on their average annual spend for combined gas and electricity.
The raises, although unwelcome to consumers, are not entirely unexpected. In fact the media have for some time been predicting bill increases of between 15% and 30%.
One way for consumers to protect themselves against such huge increases is to seek out one of the fixed price tariffs that are currently available.
EDF also provides a fixed price tariff, and Scottish Power’s ‘PriceFall’ tariff caps charges until November 2008, but it’s a good idea to act fast as the current deals may not be around for much longer (for full, up-to-date prices, visit the latest tariff updates page on Confused.com’s energywatch-accredited utilities section).
So if you’re concerned about increases in next year’s utility bills, and would like to keep your gas and electricity payments at 2007 levels, act now and let Confused.com help you find the cheapest fixed price deals.
