A plea for the Government to rethink the new motorcycle test may have one eye on motorbike insurance premiums for learner and newly-qualified riders.
According to the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI), "little sign of the flexible thinking" is being shown by the Driving Standards Agency over the 2nd European Driving Licence Directive (2DLD).
It has now appealed to transport minister Lord Adonis to "sort out the problems with the new two-part motorcycle test" and "the lack of full-time multi-purpose test centres... which are having a devastating impact on rider training and testing."
It is also concerned about the ramifications of 3DLD, due to be implemented in 2013, which may mean that learners could lose their right to ride unaccompanied on L-plates.
The MCI is urging Lord Adonis to "go back to the drawing board" and reconsider the potential damage to the UK motorcycle industry before it is too late.
