Runnymede Borough Council has ordered Sir Cliff Richard to knock down a £30,000 conservatory after it was decided it did not comply with planning rules.
The 68-year-old singer will now be looking to see if his home insurance policy will cover the cost of the structure, which was deemed too big for the green belt land, at his home in Virginia Water, Surrey.
The conservatory, which was built without planning permission three years ago, must now be demolished and if the Summer Holiday star fails to meet the request the council could take legal action.
A retrospective planning application for the 17ft by 13ft (5.2m by 4.2m) conservatory was issued, but an enforcement notice to demolish the building followed.
The council's planning committee said it was a "disproportionate addition" to the original building as it increased the property's floor area by more than the 30% threshold.
Although Sir Cliff was unable to comment, he is expected to appeal the decision that the conservatory is a "harmful development" to the green belt site.
