Aircraft Ditches In Front Garden

A Salford homeowner has been left counting the cost after the front garden of their property became an unlikely crash landing site for a microlight.

Police believe the microlight had only been in the air for a short period of time as the crash site is only a mile away from City Airport.

The craft was smashed in the impact that left debris strewn across the front of the house, causing damage to a garden wall and railings.

The pilot and his passenger were taken to hospital with minor injuries as fire crews closed part of Brookhouse Avenue.

Fortunately, the homeowner was out at the time of the crash which resulted in many local properties being evacuated by fire crews as a precaution.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Brookhouse Avenue is closed and residents in the road have been evacuated as a precaution. Emergency services are at the scene and inquiries are continuing."
