Another energy provider is cutting charges for supplying gas, with npower reducing its customers' bills by up to 7%.
The firm is the fourth major UK provider to cut gas bills.
From March 26, npower's two million residential gas customers will pay on average £50 less.
Discounts for monthly direct debit customers will be overhauled too, with the 12-month anniversary discount available to electricity customers doubling to £40, equivalent to 4.8% off their electricity bill.
Cuts are being announced across the industry amid falling wholesale prices.
But consumer groups have criticised the sector for not moving faster to cut prices in the face of a bitterly cold winter.
The reduction follows E.ON's 6% cut on Monday, last month's 7% cut in British Gas's average standard gas tariff and a 4% reduction from Scottish & Southern Energy.
Robert Hammond, energy expert at Consumer Focus, said the E.ON cut would be welcomed by its customers, but accused the sector of acting with a "pack mentality" and condemned a lack of competition in the market.
