Get ready for the 2010 British Superbikes Season as Confused.com previews the championship and gives the lowdown on the lightning-fast Kawasaki team it sponsors
The wait was worth it for motorcycle fans as the 2010 BSB season got underway at Brands Hatch over the Easter Weekend. The legendary Kent circuit hosted the first of 12 rounds, with each rider set on making 2010 even more thrilling and adrenaline fuelled than last year’s championship.
As a spectacle, British Superbikes offers the kind of lap-by-lap thrills that leaves other motor sports stranded on the grid. This is probably why BSB now welcomes the largest support of any motor sport activity in the UK, as evidenced by the huge and ever-growing attendance figures.
This popularity is just one reason why the Confused.com brand will once again be seen flying around the nation’s top racing circuits at speeds just shy of 200 mph. Following a successful sponsorship stint last year, Confused.com has re-teamed with MSS Colchester Kawasaki for the 26 races on the calendar, as well as the Ulster GP, NW200 and the world-famous Isle of Man TT road races.
Confused.com has also just launched a Superbikes Blog to follow and cheer on their sponsored team throughout the season – so make sure you get online for race updates, eyewitness tales from paddock and pit lane, and interviews with the talented, win-hungry mob that makes up MSS Colchester Kawasaki.
The Riders
Staking their claim for glory on board the Confused.com Kawasaki ZX-10R Ninjas are Simon Andrews and Gary Mason.
Simon Andrews: 2010 marks Simon’s fifth season in Superbikes, and his second year riding for MSS Colchester Kawasaki. The 25-year-old from Worcester is expected to be one of 2010’s championship contenders, so don’t forget to follow his progress on our blog.
Gary Mason: The 31-year-old from Lichfield has been riding Superbikes since 2002, and joins the team after winning the 2009 BSB Cup Championship on board a Quay Garage Honda. Mason may be new to the team, but his ties with team principal Nick Morgan go all the way back to 2000, when the partnership culminated in a European Superstock win at Brands Hatch.
The Team
MSS Colchester Kawasaki: Following successful Supersport campaigns in 2005-2006, the Essex-based team shifted up a gear and became the official UK Superbike team of Kawasaki. Since then, the bikes have proudly sported Kawasaki’s famous lime-green race colours, and Confused.com is equally proud to have its brand make up part of the livery.
The Bikes
As per BSB rules, the bikes must be based on road-going production models. Two standard Ninja ZX-10R bikes have been race-readied using all the skill and experience of Nick Morgan and his crew. The end results weigh in at just 162 kg each, produce around 200 bhp, and can top out at 195 mph. Add a state-of-the-art WSB Magneti Marelli electronics package and the bikes will surely be challenging at the sharp end of the pack for the 2010 BSB title.
2010 Road Racing
Confused.com’s sponsorship also extends to Kawasakis running at the premier roads circuits of the Ulster GP, NW200 and the Isle of Man TT. In the saddle, and hoping that the speed cameras are switched off, will be riders Stephen Thompson and double TT winner and Irish Motorcyclist of the Year, Ryan Farquhar.
British Superbikes – Where to Catch the Action
As BSB is one of the most competitive and thrilling Superbike championships in the world, you won’t want to miss Simon Andrews, Gary Mason and the rest of the BSB riders battling it out for the crown now that reigning champ Leon Camier has moved to World Superbikes. You can catch BSB on ITV or Eurosport, or better still, why not turn up at one of the dozen race weekends held at top circuits across the country – there’s no better way to experience the full-on, pulse-racing buzz of this exciting sport.
Confused.com will be there, and though we’ll be rooting for MSS Colchester Kawasaki, we’d like to wish the best of luck to all the teams lining up for British Superbikes 2010.
