BT rapped for 'most reliable' claim

BT has been told it cannot claim it provides "the UK's most reliable wireless connection".

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled the statement is misleading and said it must not be repeated without evidence or qualification.

The watchdog said the ad's headline declaration gives the impression that BT provides the most reliable wireless online experience - but the internet service provider has not proved this to be so and in evidence referred only to the BT Home Hub 3 router.

The ASA accepted that BT's tests confirmed that particular router was more reliable at maintaining a wireless connection despite interference from non-Wi-Fi devices such as baby monitors.

But it noted the advert suggested that BT's broadband service was the best in the face of "competing signals" and it was not made clear that these signals were non-Wi-Fi devices.
