It’s the toy that everyone’s talking about. We all know that the iPhone has thousands of apps for games, music and everyday tasks, but did you realise that there are some that could help you save money? We thought we’d spread the word and tell you about ten apps we think could really help improve your financial situation.
So here they are, in no particular order:
RedLaser (£1.19) – This is, quite frankly, brilliant. If you see something you want while out shopping, scan the barcode on your iPhone camera. RedLaser will recognise it and find you a list of online prices via Google product search, so you won’t get that sinking feeling when you find it cheaper elsewhere!
0870 (Free) – We’ve all been there – sitting in a queue at a cost of 35p a minute, all to complain about something that wasn’t our fault in the first place. This nifty little app ends all that – finding you alternative numbers that will come straight out of your contract minutes.
MORE TH>N Car Claim (Free) – Anyone (including non-More Th>n customers) can use this one-stop shop to record everything they need to make a car insurance claim. Photo records of the scene, enter accident information and send it all off without the cost or hassle of having pictures developed or photocopies made.
Vouchercloud (Free) – Save bucketloads on shopping and eating out with this major moneysaving app. Wherever you’re buying, Voucherloud will use GPS to track the bargains available near you. The majority of vouchers are totally free, however users can also pay a subscription fee if they want more exclusive and high-savings deals.
Meter Readings (£0.59) – Keep a keen eye on your household energy and water usage. Among other things, this app will tell you your latest reading, the price you’re paying and where you stand compared to the national average.
Petrol Prices Pro (£2.99) – Petrol prices are soaring, but this app is a great way of limiting the impact on your pocket. Petrol Prices Pro will work out where you are, and let you know the prices and locations of the nearest pump.
Mini Mortgage Manager (£0.59) – A godsend for anyone who has tried to work out their mortgage maths on the back of a serviette. It’s all very simple – enter the amount you want to borrow, and this app will work out your monthly, fortnightly or weekly mortgage repayments.
Skype (Free) – With Skype’s long-awaited iPhone app you can make free video calls to other Skype users over the internet; meaning potentially massive savings on your phone bills, particularly if you have loved ones abroad.
iXpenseit (£2.99) – If you’re a committed money saver, this is the app for you. At £2.99 it might seem a little steep, but this little gizmo will allow you to manage your budget at the touch a finger. Enter your bank balance on payday and then watch in alarm at how fast it disappears over the month. Easy to use and a great way of keeping track of your spending; though it requires some discipline to input all your expenditure.
