Life Insurer pays out over £100 million in Critical Illness claims

Figures out today from Legal and General show that the insurer has paid out 88.2 per cent of claims, up nearly 5% from its previous published figures.

Managing Director of Protection at Legal and General, Bernie Hickman, commented that these figures confirmed the company's progress in bringing down the level of rejected claims.

He added that policyholders should be confident that they will be treated fairly by insurers when they make a claim. "We are in the business of paying out much needed money when customers need it most." He said.

The company's critical illness claims were primarily for terminal illness, stroke, cancer, heart attack, and multiple sclerosis. 96.3% of claims received were for life insurance, totalling almost £180 million.
