Windy weather advice for households

A home insurance company is helping households prepare for windy weather by providing top tips on how to stop buildings from getting damaged.

As forecasters predict that blasts of wind will continue to sweep across the country until next week, Swinton is advising home owners to check their building insurance policy to make sure they are protected against storm damage.

Other tips from the insurance provider include closing all windows and doors during strong winds, keeping a torch handy in case power lines are knocked out and ensuring fence panels and outdoor furniture are secure so they cannot be lifted by the wind and thrown against the building.

Steve Chelton, Insurance Development Manager at Swinton said, "Usually storm damages is included automatically on a home insurance policy but it is always best to double check with your home insurance provider."
