Forecasters have predicted that parts of the UK are to be hit with heavy downpours of as much as 60mm of rain.

The Met Office said people in Wales, Northern Ireland, the West Midlands, London and the South East were among those who could expect heavy rain.

It has issued several severe weather warnings, with Cornwall, West Devon and Pembrokeshire among the areas expected to be hit hardest.

Forecasters also predicted that there could be flooding in some places during Monday.

The weather service's website said: "Periods of heavy rain, accompanied at times by strong winds, will affect parts of western Britain during Monday.

"The public should be aware that quantities of rain may be sufficient in a few places to disrupt travel and give rise to localised flooding.

"In Northern Ireland the heaviest rain is expected to arrive later in the day."
