Britain is expected to be blighted by yet more bad weather this week, with many English regions set for heavy rain and strong winds on Monday night.

This follows on from last week when much of Scotland and northern England was disrupted by adverse weather.

The Met Office has issued strong wind and heavy rain warnings for many parts of England, while the weather in the South East is expected to be particularly unsavoury on Monday night.

Severe gales or storm-force winds are also expected across Northern Ireland and southern parts of Britain on Tuesday, while heavy showers could cause flooding in some areas.

Forecasters have said that although the weather could be bad in many regions, it is not expected to be as severe as it was in certain areas last week.

Winds of 165mph were recorded in Scotland, while downed trees and power lines forced some schools to close and caused widespread travel disruption in parts of Scotland and northern England.

The winds are expected to return in the coming days, but they are not expected to be as strong as those experienced last Thursday.

Meanwhile, thousands of residents in Scotland could be struggling to keep warm as engineers work to restore power in thousands of homes affected by the strong winds.
