Torrential rain has caused homes to be flooded in parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Eastern and northern areas of England were also affected by the downpours after forecasters had warned that almost a month's rain would fall in one day, leading to environment agencies putting flood warnings in place.

Town centre properties were on alert in Arbroath, Angus, after the Scottish Environment Protection Agency said the River Brothock was rising.

Localised flooding struck parts of Dundee after recorded rainfall of 50mm, with the deluge also causing some flooding in Inverness.

There were reports of flash flooding in Northern Ireland, in the Claremount Gardens area of Warrenpoint. A nearby wastewater pumping station was also affected.
