Flood warnings have been sounded for large parts of Wales and northern England.

Forecasters said the North Sea coast is the most threatened by flooding on Tuesday, particularly Kilnsea in Yorkshire.

Britain was swept by 80mph winds on Monday, as the tail of a hurricane snapped across the Atlantic, but Tuesday's winds will be much reduced, forecasters added.

Monday's gales created high waves along coastal areas, cancelling ferries. Train tracks and roads around the UK were littered with felled trees and branches.

In Langley Moor, County Durham, a newly installed roof on a building site was blown off, landing on 15 cars parked 10ft away.

The strongest wind for Monday was recorded in Capel Curig in north Wales but parts of Scotland had the worst weather overall.
