Footballer Peter Crouch's luxury home on "millionaires' row" in a Cheshire village has been targeted by burglars.

The £4.5 million mansion was broken into while the Premier League star and his wife, model Abbey Clancy, were out on Tuesday.

The England and Stoke City striker, whose previous clubs include Spurs, Liverpool, QPR, Portsmouth, Aston Villa and Southampton, is believed to have reported the burglary to Cheshire Police when the couple returned home in the evening.

It is the second time his home has been burgled. A previous home in Alderley Edge was raided in 2006 by a gang which timed raids to coincide with matches - knowing the player would not be at home.

His latest home is in Mottram St Andrew, close to Prestbury and Alderley Edge, where neighbours include Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez.
