A survey has revealed that 70 per cent of consumers are not happy with their energy provider's prices even though only 31 per cent have switched in the last year.
Some 58 per cent of consumers said they were either unhappy or indifferent about the service level they received, and just 12 per cent felt loyal to their provider, according to the newly published research.
Domestic energy consumers were hugely frustrated that customer service seems to have diminished while prices have soared, said Daryn Edgar, from the survey's commissioner, business technology solutions and managed services provider, Avanade.
"No market can sustain this level of discontentment for long, especially given the threat of a host of new entrants," said Mr Edgar, Avanade Senior Director Dynamics AX, UK.
The study, conducted by YouGov, quizzed more than 1,700 energy buying consumers to find out how British people feel about their providers.
