Editor’s Pick: Take a stance against excessive energy bills
By Sharon Flaherty
There’s no denying it’s been a two year attack on financial institutions across the UK, with the finger mainly being pointed at banks that have sickened many with their government bailouts and excessive bonuses.
But while our banks are not out of the firing line yet, it seems there are now other companies coming under scrutiny with attention turning to energy players.
The ‘big six’ energy providers, which include: British Gas; E.ON; EDF Energy; n power; Scottish & Southern and Scottish Power; are being made the target of a campaign to get fairer pricing for consumers.
MP John Grogan is leading the charge and has put down an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons calling on other MPs to support it and on the Competition Commission to investigate the relationship between the prices the ‘big six’ pay for their energy supplies and the prices they then charge consumers.
So how much support has the motion received so far? Well, it has 104 signatures and there is no reason why it won’t gain many more, particularly now that Consumer Focus has also thrown its weight behind the cause.
